Musings of a Fencing Wife

It seemed like an appropriate time to start a blog while I'm killing time at a fencing tournament. It really is quite amazing how many teenagers get up at ungodly hours on a Saturday morning to get poked and whipped and slashed.... and of their own free will too! Hopefully the book sale will go well. Actually, I'm secretly hoping to be sold out by lunch time so I can go home and have a nap. =D Though sometimes I amaze myself that I can actually manage to sleep at a tournament. I guess sometimes all that clanging and beeping can get soothing. =D

On another note, I went to see The Magic Flute last night. This is my second opera (I saw La Boheme a couple of years ago) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was completely bizarre and off the wall. Definately not your usual high-brow opera. The costumes and sets were amazing, and they did some spectacular things with lighting. The Queen of the Night was sensational. During one of her solos I was convinced it was some instrument making the noises and not a human being. It seemed completely improbable to me that such a high, pure, consistent sound could be made by a person. It was beautiful. Next season's line up looks good too: Cinderella, Carmen, a soloist, and one other opera I haven't heard of. I would love to see Cinderella and Carmen though. Stay tuned in the fall for more opera reviews!

As for the blog name, because I'm sure some of you are wondering. This is the name I have engraved on my ipod. I was trying to think of something original to have engraved, something that symbolized me. So I simply ran together three of the the things I like the most and voila! Strawberry Blue Viking! Hopefully I will manage to post entries on a regular basis. I like the idea of having a space on the web where I can post random thoughts and no one can stop me!! A-hah-haaaa!
